Mokpo City Confirms Tourism Brand Design 'Mokporang'
Development of Korean and English, Applied Design and Product Design
Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do has finalized the Mokpo tourism brand design (BI), which embodies the identity and symbolic image of one of South Korea's four major tourism hub cities, as ‘Mokporang,’ and based on this, has developed applied designs and product designs.

The background for the city establishing the tourism brand design (BI) is that Mokpo was selected as a representative tourism hub city of South Korea, prompting the development of a city-representative brand and various tourism souvenirs.
Accordingly, the city analyzed domestic and international tourism trends, content, history, places, people, and other regional environments, and gathered diverse opinions from academia, tourism industry workers, experts, and the MZ generation regarding Mokpo’s unique tourism BI.
As a result, five design proposals were derived: ‘Mokporang,’ ‘Atta Mokpo,’ ‘Wa! Mokpo,’ ‘Mokporangkke,’ and ‘OK Mokpo.’ In January, a nationwide survey on design (BI) preferences was conducted.
The survey saw participation from 14,402 people, showing preferences in the order of ‘Mokporang’ 32.2%, ‘Mokporangkke’ 21.4%, ‘Atta Mokpo’ 21.2%, ‘OK Mokpo’ 13%, and ‘Wa! Mokpo’ 11.6%. With the highest preference for ‘Mokporang,’ it was finalized as the official BI.
Based on ‘Mokporang,’ two versions were developed: Korean and English. The Korean notation ‘목포랑’ distinguishes ‘Mokpo’ and ‘rang’ by color and combines a heart motif expressing emotion and romance.
The English notation ‘Romantic Port MOKPO’ uses a font with a protruding end and is expressed in shades of orange, making it stand out through color contrast.
The city plans to link the city brand ‘Romantic Port Mokpo’ with the newly created tourism brand ‘Mokporang,’ hold a brand launch promotional event, and utilize it diversely in various promotional materials and tourism souvenirs to build brand awareness of Mokpo as a representative ‘tourism hub city of South Korea.’

A city official stated, “‘Mokporang’ has the advantage of easily promoting the regional name,” adding, “We will focus on promoting Mokpo as a tourism hub city by linking it with the city brand ‘Romantic Port Mokpo.’”
