Partner Contractor KT Submarine Also Enters Market... "Business Expansion"
LS Cable & System announced on the 26th that it has signed a submarine cable supply contract with Ørsted, the world's number one offshore wind power company from Denmark, for the offshore wind power complex in Changhua County (彰化縣), Taiwan. This involves supplying submarine cables to the largest offshore wind power complex in the Asia-Pacific region.
The submarine cables will be installed at a scale of 920MW in an area 35 to 60 km off the coast of Changhua County in western Taiwan. After completion at the end of 2025, they will produce renewable energy.
LS Cable & System has secured all contracts to supply ultra-high voltage submarine cables for eight projects in the first phase of Taiwan's offshore wind power complex construction. Orders began in 2019, with cumulative contract value reaching approximately 1 trillion KRW.

Taiwan plans to complete a 5.5 GW wind power complex through the first phase by 2025 and to additionally develop 15 GW by 2035.
LS Cable & System is advancing the Taiwan project together with submarine cable construction company KT Submarine (KTS). On the 3rd of last month, it exercised a call option to acquire 6,290,558 shares of KTS for 44.9 billion KRW. Upon acquiring the shares on July 3rd, it will become the largest shareholder of KTS.
There are only about five companies worldwide capable of providing integrated supply from submarine cable manufacturing to construction, and LS Cable & System is the only one in Korea.

LS Cable & System stated, "Taiwan is expected to place additional submarine cable orders worth approximately 3 trillion KRW," and added, "If we expand into construction projects together with KTS, the business scale is expected to grow even larger."
