View original imageThe Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 26th that Jinju City in Gyeongnam has been finally selected as the site for this year's Green Startup Town.
The Green Startup Town development project aims to build and support a complex hub center where existing startup support infrastructures such as startup parks, knowledge industry centers, and maker spaces can form a single cluster. It will be established in locations preferred by young people in urban areas where living infrastructure such as housing, culture, and transportation facilities have already been built, linked with urban regeneration districts. The town will house startups related to eco-friendly and climate tech companies as well as regional key industries such as aerospace, anti-aging, and green energy industries. The building is required to have energy management and renewable energy utilization systems installed.
So far, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups has been developing Green Startup Towns in four metropolitan cities and provinces: Cheonan in Chungnam (2020), Gwangju Metropolitan City (2021), Daegu Metropolitan City (2022), and Wonju in Gangwon Province (2022). Including the newly designated Jinju, Green Startup Towns will be established in five metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide.
Five local governments applied for this public contest. Jinju City was evaluated highly for its excellent regional infrastructure related to the Aerospace sector, centered around Gyeongsang National University Chilam Campus, the low-carbon green industrial complex, Jinju Innovation City, and three nearby urban regeneration districts (Seongbuk, Gangnam, Sangdae). Based on this, it is expected to be easy to support and link growth plans for startups in aerospace industry (parts, materials), anti-aging industry, green energy industry (renewable, eco-friendly), and ICT digital industry sectors. Jinju City plans to develop the town under the project name "Urban Regeneration G-Green Digital Square" with the concept of "The future of young Gyeongnam leading regional innovation and growth, a think tank platform for Gyeongnam's green digital industry."
