Gyeongnam Province Provides Monthly Rent Support for Homeless Youth up to Age 39
Up to 10 Months for 1,000 People, Maximum 150,000 KRW per Month
Gyeongsangnam-do is implementing the 2023 Gyeongsangnam-do Youth Monthly Rent Support Project by investing a total of 1.6 billion KRW, including 800 million KRW from the provincial government and 800 million KRW from city and county governments, to reduce the housing cost burden for young households without homes.
According to Gyeongsangnam-do, this project has been promoted since 2021 to reduce housing costs, which constitute the largest portion of young people’s economic burden, enabling them to focus on their studies and livelihoods.
Last year, the province supported monthly rent totaling 1.55 billion KRW for 1,088 young residents living in the province.
With the recent amendment of the Gyeongsangnam-do Youth Basic Ordinance expanding the youth age range to 19 to 39 years old, this change will be reflected in this year’s project.
Young people aged 19 to 39 who live separately from their parents and do not own a home will be supported with up to 150,000 KRW per month for 10 months, limited to one lifetime benefit.
The support targets young people whose household income is between 60% and 150% of the median income, who live in monthly rent housing costing 600,000 KRW or less, and with a lease deposit of 100 million KRW or less.
Those who own a house or rent a family-owned house, national or local government officials, residents of public rental housing, or those already receiving youth housing support from the government or local governments are excluded.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the local town, township, or neighborhood office in person with the required documents during the application period announced on each city or county’s official website, or online through the ‘Gyeongnam Baro Service’ system.
The final support recipients will be selected and announced after verification of income criteria and eligibility according to the schedule of each city or county, and the selected recipients will receive retroactive payments for rent paid from February onward.
For more details about the project, contact the Gyeongsangnam-do Architecture and Housing Division or the relevant department of each city or county.
An official from the province urged, “Since the application targets and periods may vary depending on city or county ordinances and conditions, applicants must individually check the detailed schedule and information through the announcement on the official website of the city or county where they are registered.”
