Suncheon-si Successfully Completes Citizens' 100 Million Steps Walking Donation Campaign
1000 People Participate in Barefoot Walking Donation
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) celebrated reaching 100 million steps in the citizen walking donation campaign on the 22nd by inviting over 1,000 citizens to the Ocheon Green Plaza for a successful walking donation event.
The event was held under the catchphrase "Suncheon is a walking city" and included barefoot walking on the Ocheon Green Plaza Earth Path (2.5km), group stretching exercises, a 2 million won walking donation ceremony, and the delivery of hopeful health recovery messages.
The 100 million steps walking donation campaign was a meaningful time that promoted citizens' health while turning their healthy steps into donations to inspire hope in vulnerable groups.
The second walking donation campaign showed great enthusiasm as 1,137 Suncheon citizens participated from the 8th, achieving the goal in just 12 days.
In daily life, the practice of walking 10,000 steps a day is increasing by utilizing nearby urban areas such as Dongcheon, Suncheon Bay National Garden, Bonghwa Mountain Trail, Well-being Road, and Lake Park.
This walking donation was supported by Hyden Dental Clinic (Director Kang In-sung), which provides oral health management services to citizens in Jorye-dong, donating 2 million won to support medical expenses of 1 million won each for two vulnerable individuals.
A citizen who directly participated in the walking donation said, "I really enjoyed walking the Ocheon Green Plaza Earth Path, and knowing that my steps are being donated to cover medical expenses for cancer patients makes my steps lighter and my heart happy."
Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon said, "I am proud of the citizens of Suncheon who are creating a new milestone for the ecological capital Suncheon as a healthy city through the walking donation citizen movement. It is wonderful to see people taking care of not only their own health but also the health of medically vulnerable citizens through walking," and added, "We will continue to expand the walking donation movement."
