LG Uplus Establishes 'Information Security Advisory Committee' ... Strengthening Cybersecurity
LG Uplus has established the 'Information Security Advisory Committee' to strengthen its cyber security verification system.
LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that it has launched the 'Information Security Advisory Committee,' composed of external experts in the field of cyber security, and held its first meeting. This is part of LG Uplus's cyber security innovation activities announced last February.

View original imageThe appointed members include Lee Ki-joo, Head and Advisor of the Information Security Research Institute at Kim & Chang Law Office (General Chairman of the Advisory Committee), Kim Jin-hwan, Lawyer at Whale & Sun Law Office, Kim Ik-gyun, Senior Researcher at ETRI Cyber Security Research Division, Kim Hwi-gang, Professor at Korea University Graduate School of Information Security, Lee Sang-min, Professor at Yeonam College of Smart Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Lee Sang-yeop, Executive Vice President of LG Uplus, and Choi Dong-geun, Professor at Korea University Graduate School of Information Security, totaling seven members.
Chairman Lee is currently serving as Head and Advisor of the Information Security Research Institute at Kim & Chang Law Office. Since 2020, he has also been the President of the Korea Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Council. With experience as a Standing Commissioner of the Korea Communications Commission and as Director of the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), he is expected to play a pivotal role in advising the company's information security direction.
Chairman Lee Ki-joo stated, "The need for cyber security is growing across society beyond just companies," adding, "Since the telecommunications industry is a place where various data converge, we will explore various practical measures to strengthen both the quantity and quality of information security."
The committee members agreed to hold regular meetings and provide advisory roles on the company's technical and managerial policies. During the meeting, they reviewed recent security issues and current challenges. In particular, they examined the corrective measures announced by the government in April and the direction of improvement tasks, discussing implementation plans related to investment, personnel, simulation training, and education. They also discussed ways to utilize advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) in information security.
Hwang Hyun-sik, President of LG Uplus, said, "We have established a body that can incorporate diverse external perspectives to continuously improve the shortcomings of the company's security system," adding, "To become a company that earns deeper trust from customers, we will strengthen the security verification system together with the advisory committee members."

LG Uplus continues to carry out the 'Cyber Security Innovation Activities' announced last February. As part of these innovation activities, on the 8th of this month, it launched and began operating a new Department of Information Security at Soongsil University to nurture cyber security professionals. The appointments of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) are also expected to be completed within the first half of this year.
