Director Park Chansook’s Seodaemun-gu Office Women’s Basketball Team Takes First Step Toward Their Dream
Held First Official Match Against Daegu City Hall at the ‘2023 National Corporate Basketball Federation Tournament’
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced that the Seodaemun-gu Office Women’s Basketball Team, led by Director Park Chansook, played their first official game on the afternoon of the 20th at the indoor gymnasium in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, during the ‘2023 National Corporate Basketball Federation Tournament.’
The Seodaemun-gu Office Women’s Basketball Team, founded on March 29 of this year, engaged in a closely contested match against the Daegu City Hall Women’s Basketball Team in their debut game but unfortunately lost.
Although trailing by 3 points in the first quarter, they briefly took the lead in the second quarter and maintained a competitive game until mid-match. They closed the gap to within 10 points in the third quarter but ultimately lost 55 to 79 due to lack of experience and stamina.
Director Park, a legend of Korean women’s basketball and the first to take the helm of a single club team, said, “Although it has not been long since the team was founded and some players have had breaks, we have built the team to about 70-80% of our target level, and the atmosphere is very positive.”
After the game, she encouraged the players, saying, “I saw hope that we can do it. I was very worried because the practice period was short, but they really did well.”
Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu Office, who came to support the team at the stadium, said, “Just as there is nothing better than sports for national unity, I expect that the players who have faced difficulties will give hope to those who are discouraged in this era through every game, showing that ‘it can be done,’ and furthermore, create an opportunity to unite the residents.”
Five teams including Gimcheon City Hall, Daegu City Hall, Seoul City Basketball Association, Sacheon City Hall, and Seodaemun-gu Office participated in this tournament, with many Seodaemun-gu residents attending the games to passionately cheer and support the players.
