Police Investigate Exact Circumstances of the Accident
A teenage high school student who was seriously injured after being hit by a passenger car driven by a driver in his 70s ultimately died one day after the accident. On the 19th, the Eumseong Police Station in Chungbuk announced that high school student A (17), who had been transferred to a hospital and was receiving treatment the previous day due to the accident, was pronounced dead on the same day.
At around 4:50 p.m. the previous day, an SM3 passenger car driven by Mr. B (77) hit two teenage female students walking at an intersection in Gamgok-myeon, Eumseong-gun. One 14-year-old middle school student died on the day of the accident. The deceased female students were reportedly on their way home after school when the accident occurred. Mr. B is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
The passenger car driven by Mr. B was speeding until just before the accident and only stopped after consecutively crashing into a guardrail and a utility pole. The alcohol test on Mr. B showed that he was not under the influence of alcohol. The police are collecting Mr. B’s blood to re-measure his blood alcohol concentration. Mr. B told the police, "I don’t know how the accident happened."
The police are analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage around the accident site and believe that Mr. B’s car ran a red light and drove onto the sidewalk. They are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
