View original imageGyeonggi Province is expanding the 'Citizen Safety Innovation Group,' a practical safety policy advisory body, by adding six members including traffic and disaster experts and bereaved family members of social disaster victims, increasing the total to 15 members.
On the 19th, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon attended the '2nd Advisory Meeting of the Citizen Safety Innovation Group' held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office and said, "I hope the Citizen Safety Innovation Group avoids formality and engages in practical discussions from the perspective of beneficiaries or citizens for their safety. It seems you have steadily produced good results," adding, "I hope you continue to break through the limits of imagination that public officials have and break those frameworks together. If you help us, we will work hard as well."
He continued, "From the beginning of its launch, I said that even if it is difficult, I want to invite parties directly related to victims, their families, or close persons," and added, "Although he could not attend today, I am very pleased that Mr. Jang Hoon from the Victims' Families Council is participating."
The newly appointed advisory members this time are ▲ Yoo Jeong-hoon, Professor of Traffic Systems Engineering at Ajou University (Traffic Safety) ▲ Baek Min-ho, Professor of Fire and Disaster Prevention at Kangwon National University (Disaster Management) ▲ Jeong Won-hyeok, CEO of Sequelro Co., Ltd. (ICT & Data) ▲ Jo Hee-jung, Director of The Possible Research Institute (Civic Movement) ▲ Jang Hoon, Director of the 416 Safety Society Research Institute (Victims' Families) ▲ Park In, former Director of the Legal Interpretation Bureau at the Ministry of Government Legislation (Law).
Earlier in December last year, Gyeonggi Province appointed the 'Citizen Safety Innovation Group' to propose safety-related policies, suggest improvements to the safety management operation system, and provide advisory roles on measures to be taken in case of safety accidents.
This is one of the citizen safety measures announced by Governor Kim Dong-yeon following the Seoul Itaewon 10·29 disaster.
Gyeonggi Province will discuss citizen-centered safety policies such as traffic issues on the Gimpo Gold Line and the Jeongja Bridge collapse accident with the newly appointed advisory members. Although Gyeonggi Province announced policies in April to alleviate congestion on the Gimpo Gold Line by deploying chartered buses and demand-responsive buses, and conducted emergency inspections of 702 C-grade bridges in the province related to the Jeongja Bridge collapse accident, more fundamental and innovative measures are needed.
After the 1st advisory meeting last year, the Citizen Safety Innovation Group conducted deliberation sessions in small groups of 2-3 advisory members from January to February, discovering 19 innovation tasks. Subsequently, 13 feasible tasks were selected, including regular joint social disaster drills, introduction of intelligent control systems in 31 cities and counties, production and promotion of an integrated safety prevention hotline operation manual, and joint research in collaboration with universities, and these are being concretized with relevant departments.
