On the 18th (local time), Yongin City announced on the 19th that it signed a sister city agreement in Ajman City, one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to explore exchanges and cooperation in industries such as industry and tourism.
At the signing ceremony, Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, said, "Ajman City, which holds a significant share in the UAE's tourism and export sectors, is now establishing exchanges with Yongin Special City, a Korean city centered on semiconductors and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and rich in tourist resources such as Everland, Korean Folk Village, and natural recreation forests. We have high expectations," adding, "Let us advance exchanges and cooperation through active communication going forward."
Through this agreement, Yongin City has officially established an exchange and cooperation relationship with a city in the Middle East for the first time. A city official stated that the agreement will provide practical assistance to companies in Yongin wishing to enter the UAE market, including Ajman.
Ajman is one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE, with a population of about 700,000, and is a city focused on tourism and exports. Its export volume accounts for 20% of the UAE's total exports. Notably, it is home to Arab Heavy Industries, a world-renowned ship manufacturer, and has a large port. There are 256 companies located in the Ajman Free Trade Zone exporting to 65 countries worldwide.
The sister city agreement was finalized when six mayors from the Korea Council of Mayors of Major Cities visited Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and Ajman City expressed its intention to establish a cooperative relationship with Yongin.
