Suncheon Provides Postpartum Care Cost Support for All Mothers

Jeonnam's First, Support Provided Regardless of Income Starting July

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it will provide postpartum care cost support to mothers who give birth within the city starting from July 1.

The support targets mothers who have been registered residents of the city and actually residing there for at least six months prior to the birth date, and who have registered their newborns in Suncheon. Support is provided once per birth, and applications must be submitted to the local administrative welfare center within 60 days after childbirth.

The support amount is 800,000 KRW for the first child and 1,000,000 KRW for the second child and beyond. In the case of multiple births, from the second child onward, 50% of the support amount for the second child and beyond is provided.

Meanwhile, since March last year, the city has been operating the 5th public postpartum care center of Jeollanam-do at Hyundai Women and Children's Hospital.

For vulnerable groups and mothers giving birth to their second child or more, 70% of the usage fee is discounted, so a 14-day stay costs only 462,000 KRW.

However, discounts at the public postpartum care center cannot be combined with postpartum care cost support.

Additionally, the Maternal and Newborn Health Care Support Project, which provides health management services to mothers and newborns through visits by health care workers to childbirth families, is available to all mothers who give birth within the city regardless of income level, and up to 90% of the total service cost can be supported.

This support can be combined with postpartum care cost support or discounts at the public postpartum care center.

A Suncheon city official stated, “We hope that the various postpartum care support measures will serve as an opportunity to promote healthy upbringing of newborns, safe recovery of mothers, and economic stability for childbirth families.”
