Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's Design Innovation No.1 Nodeulseom, Design Competition Works Exhibited Until the 31st
From a wave-shaped garden that appears to be floating in the air over Nodeul Island to a ring-shaped observation wheel overlooking the Han River, works depicting the future vision of Nodeul Island by domestic and international architects can now be seen throughout Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the “Nodeul Global Art Island Design Competition Exhibition” until the 31st, allowing citizens to view the works submitted to the Nodeul Island design planning competition for free at various locations across Seoul, including Seoul City Hall, Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall, Nodeul Island Nodeul Seoga, and Open Songhyeon Green Plaza.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon announced the “Seoul Urban and Architectural Design Innovation Plan” last February, stating that various pilot projects for design innovation covering both public and private sectors would be promoted to induce and spread urban and architectural innovative design. Nodeul Island is the first case of a public sector pilot project as part of this initiative.
Previously, Seoul presented six basic conceptual plans, including core content, scale, and construction costs, to encourage creative and innovative design proposals that could discover the charm of Nodeul Island. They invited seven of the most creative and innovative architects from home and abroad through a designated competition method to promote the “Nodeul Island Design Competition.”
This exhibition was prepared to share the purpose and direction of the project before establishing the basic plan that draws the new face of Nodeul Island with citizens and to collect diverse opinions. To allow many citizens to view the design competition works, panels, videos, and other materials submitted by the seven architects will be exhibited at various locations in Seoul, including ▲the lobby on the 1st floor of Seoul City Hall Main Building (panels, videos, 4 models, work descriptions), ▲the Multi-Vision Room on B2 of Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall (panels, videos), ▲Nodeul Seoga on Nodeul Island (panels, videos, work descriptions), ▲Open Songhyeon Green Plaza (panels), ▲the 1st floor of Dongjak District Office (panels, videos), and ▲the 2nd floor Civil Service Office of Yongsan District Office (panels, videos).
Additionally, on the 25th, a “Meeting with Architects” open to all citizens will be held in the lobby on the 1st floor of Seoul City Hall Main Building. Architects from three teams who participated in the Nodeul Island design competition?▲Shin Seung-su, ▲Na Eun-jung & Yoo So-rae, and ▲Kim Chan-jung?will tour the works with citizens, explain their works directly, and engage in Q&A and communication sessions.
Meanwhile, Seoul is currently conducting a citizen idea contest under the theme “The Han River Art Island We Draw” until the 16th of next month. Anyone can participate regardless of age or residence. The city plans to carefully review the opinions submitted through this exhibition and the citizen idea contest and actively reflect them in the future Nodeul Global Art Island project plan.
