Scholz, German Chancellor, to Visit Korea on 21st... Summit with President Yoon and DMZ Visit
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to make an official visit to Korea on the 21st (local time) and hold a summit meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol. According to local media, a senior German government official held a briefing on the 11th (local time) to announce this visit schedule.
After attending the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima, Japan on the 19th, Chancellor Scholz will visit Korea on the 21st and tour the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). He will then hold a one-on-one summit and an expanded meeting with President Yoon, followed by a dinner with President Yoon and his spouse before departing for Germany. Chancellor Scholz will be accompanied by his wife, Britta Ernst, on this visit.

This is the first visit by a German chancellor to Korea in 13 years since former Chancellor Angela Merkel visited for the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in 2010. It is also the first official visit for a bilateral meeting with the Korean president in 30 years, since former Chancellor Helmut Kohl's visit in 1993.
