Political Affairs Committee Full Meeting
Anti-Corruption Commission: "Requires Consent from All Members Individually"
Regarding the controversy over Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk's virtual asset holdings, People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Chang-hyun urged a full investigation into the cryptocurrency holdings of members of the National Assembly.
At the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee plenary meeting held on the 11th, Rep. Yoon said, "There is a possibility that WEMIX was received in kind without knowing where and how much is held, and from this perspective, it does not add up," and proposed a full investigation of lawmakers by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
Jeong Seung-yoon, Vice Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, said, "Under current law, conflicts of interest are recognized only when deliberated by the relevant standing committee or during a government audit," adding, "A full investigation would require the consent of all individual lawmakers."
People Power Party lawmaker Song Seok-jun also said, "What efforts has the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission made to ensure the integrity and prevent corruption of public officials?" and added, "We need to check whether there have been any related reports or complaints."
Vice Chairman Jeong said, "So far, there have been no reports received," but added, "If reports come in, and if there is scope to investigate whether there were transactions using non-public information under the Public Officials Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, we will conduct a thorough investigation."
