Gangseo-gu, Seoul Accelerates Revitalization of Old Downtown... Launches Public-Private TF Team
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul: “We Will Achieve the Old Downtown Redevelopment Project Reflecting Residents’ Aspirations”
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) launched the “Public-Private Joint Old Downtown Revitalization Promotion Committee” on the 11th to swiftly advance redevelopment projects in aging areas including Hwagok-dong.
Kim Tae-woo, who made “Old Downtown Revitalization” his first campaign pledge, attended the launch ceremony held in the district office’s main conference room that afternoon and said, “We will definitely achieve the old downtown redevelopment project that contains the residents’ aspirations.”
The district formed a public-private joint triangular team to systematically review and successfully promote the old downtown revitalization project from multiple perspectives.
The newly launched Public-Private Joint Old Downtown Revitalization Promotion Committee consists of 28 members including Chairman Shin Jin-ho, residents, redevelopment and reconstruction experts, and public officials.
As one team, the public and private sectors will carry out activities over the next two years such as ▲ reviewing policy application plans and feasibility related to old downtown revitalization ▲ guiding and promoting resident participation in redevelopment projects ▲ providing advice on redevelopment projects by district ▲ discussing the results of opinion gathering through resident representatives.
Before taking office, Mayor Kim showed strong determination to promote redevelopment projects in deteriorating residential areas with poor living conditions. He paid special attention to residents’ wishes for improved living environments and inconveniences caused by urban aging, even adopting the slogan “Hwagok will become Magok.”
In December last year, he established the nation’s first “Old Downtown Revitalization Support Ordinance,” providing institutional support grounds for old downtown revitalization such as establishing comprehensive plans for redevelopment of aging residential areas.
Mayor Kim, who has always emphasized communication with residents, also formed the “Old Downtown Revitalization Resident Communication Supporters” to help residents understand redevelopment and reconstruction projects.
Thus, Mayor Kim has been tirelessly working to promote the long-awaited old downtown redevelopment project. As the youngest district head in Seoul, he achieved remarkable results within six months of taking office, including the final selection of the largest urban public housing complex project candidate site in Hwagok 2-dong nationwide and the park development project over Gukhoe-daero.
