'Automobile Day' Car Industry Calls for Enactment of Special Law Supporting Future Vehicles

The Korea Automobile Mobility Industry Association (KAMA) stated that the enactment of a special law and workforce development are necessary for the advancement of the automobile industry.
Kang Nam-hoon, Chairman of KAMA, said at the 20th Automobile Day commemorative event held on the morning of the 11th at the Grand Bloom of Grand Hyatt Seoul, “The prompt enactment of a special law to support future vehicles is necessary to assist parts companies in their electrification transition.” He added that the electrification transition of parts companies is delayed, and support for this must come first.

Chairman Kang emphasized that workforce development is also necessary for the automobile industry to move forward in a future-oriented manner. He urged, “The government’s goal to train 30,000 future vehicle convergence and fusion personnel by 2030 must be implemented promptly.” He also mentioned the need to diversify supply sources for securing core parts and minerals and to enhance labor flexibility.

Lawmakers and related government officials attending the event also responded positively. Kim Han-jung, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, “We will spare no support to ensure stable industrial activities through the enactment of the special law.” Han Moo-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, said, “The special law on future vehicles will be carefully discussed at the Industry Subcommittee next week.” Jang Young-jin, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, also said, “The private sector and companies will lead, and the government will provide strong support from behind.”

Meanwhile, at the event, awards were given to those who contributed to the development of the automobile industry. The Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit was awarded to Choi Jun-young, Vice President of Kia, and the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit was awarded to Moon Jong-sik, Executive Director of Daseong. Choi Jong, Vice President of Korea GM, Ahn Jae-beom, Vice President of Unique, and Song Sang-myung, Executive Director of Renault Korea Motors, received the Industrial Medal. In addition, 4 Presidential Citations, 5 Prime Minister’s Citations, and 20 Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Citations were awarded.
