Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is making this year the inaugural year for improving Seokchon Lake's water quality, taking a step closer to creating a 'premium Seokchon Lake.'
On the 15th at 2 p.m., Songpa-gu announced that it will hold the '2023 Seokchon Lake Water Quality Improvement MOU Ceremony' at the Seokchon Lake East Lake waterfront stage. The agreement includes participation from Songpa-gu Office, six Lotte affiliates including Lotte Engineering & Construction, Green Future Foundation, and Jens.
Over the past two years, the district has been running a pilot 'Seokchon Lake Water Quality Improvement Project' and confirmed the possibility of achieving target water quality by successfully hosting the 'Seokchon Lake Swimming Competition' last August.
The nine institutions participating in the agreement plan to continuously maintain the clean and clear water quality of Seokchon Lake by finding water quality improvement measures through mutual cooperation.
According to the agreement, Songpa-gu will support administration for water quality and turbidity improvement and provide basic data. The six Lotte affiliates will support fundraising and related matters for project implementation. Green Future Foundation will be responsible for inspecting project outcomes and environmental monitoring through citizen participation. Jens will handle purification work for water quality and turbidity improvement and plans to collect water quality data.
After the MOU ceremony, the heads of the nine institutions plan to directly participate in a water purification demonstration by boarding a boat on-site and injecting eco-friendly chemicals to remove water pollutants.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "Through this agreement, we will create a clean and beautiful Seokchon Lake all year round and strive to allow residents to enjoy beautiful natural scenery within the city."
