Gominjeong: "Kim Namguk Coin, I Also Feel Relative Deprivation... This Is Not a Matter to End with an Apology"
"Building Public Consensus Is as Important as Legal Compliance"
Ko Min-jung, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on the controversy surrounding fellow party member Kim Nam-guk's virtual asset holdings, saying, "I also felt a momentary sense of relative deprivation," and added, "Many citizens probably felt the same way." She explained that this is similar to how multi-homeowner lawmakers face criticism when housing prices skyrocket.
In an interview on the night of the 9th with YTN Radio's 'Shin Yul's News Face-off,' Ko said, "Fortunately, (Kim) has issued an apology, but it feels somewhat late," and added, "Now that he has apologized, I hope people will accept his sincerity."
Ko stated, "In politics, while legality is important, forming a consensus with the public is also crucial," and said, "Before saying there is no legal issue, the public likely felt a sense of self-disgust regarding a lawmaker buying and selling coins."

Ko emphasized, "The Democratic Party should not panic but take the time to clearly sort this out. Although there was no intention to hide anything, if the matter is not properly addressed, the public may suspect that something is being concealed. That would completely undermine trust."
She continued, "Every single word of explanation is extremely important," and added, "I believe it is right to thoroughly examine everything from start to finish and carefully consider how much and in what way to explain it to the public so that it is easy to understand."

Ko assessed that "the Democratic Party is at a very important crossroads." She explained, "Both the money envelope allegations and Kim's coin issue are ongoing, so public judgment will depend on how the Democratic Party responds. If this issue is handled well, the public will recognize the effort, but if there is an attempt to hide something or to gloss over it, the party will be seen as untrustworthy."
