Goheung-gun to Renovate Geogeum Bridge Double-deck Walkway Starting Next Month

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do is promoting the ‘Geogeum Bridge Double-deck Walkway Maintenance Project’ to add new attractions to Geogeum Bridge in Geumsan-myeon and provide various sights.

Geogeum Bridge, which opened in December 2011 as the first domestic complex bridge with a bicycle and pedestrian road (1st floor) and a roadway (2nd floor), will be transformed into an attractive tourist resource where visitors can experience the scenic beauty of the Dadohae (Korean Archipelago) from the double-deck bridge through trick art and bicycle road maintenance.

According to Goheung-gun, ‘Geogeum Bridge’ is administratively named after Geumsan-myeon, but it is called ‘Geogeumdo’ due to the Mokjangseong ruins where horses were raised during the Goryeo Dynasty and the high-quality stone industry. It is a 2,058-meter cable-stayed bridge connecting Sorokdo and Doyang-eup, serving as an attractive tourist resource connecting islands where visitors can enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery of the Dadohae.

Goheung-gun has decided to install trick art and improve parking lots and bicycle roads to further enhance the attractiveness of Geogeum Bridge as a tourist resource.

The Geogeum Bridge Double-deck Walkway Maintenance Project includes maintenance of the parking lot near Geogeum Rest Area, paving of the Geogeum Bridge bicycle road, and installation of trick art and murals. The project started in June this year and aims for completion in 2024.

A county official said, “Through this maintenance project, we expect to strengthen the connectivity of the merits of Geogeum Bridge and Sorokdo as tourism products, further enhancing the function of the southern region as a tourism promotion theme and complex.”
