A man who committed a hit-and-run accident against a disabled person in a residential alley has been arrested and indicted.
According to the legal community on the 9th, the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office's Human Rights and Economic Crime Division (Chief Lee Jong-min) has arrested and indicted Mr. A on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run causing death) and the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).
Mr. A is accused of hitting Mr. B, a man in his 30s, while making a left turn in a residential alley in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, at around 1:14 a.m. on the 23rd of last month. However, he fled the scene without providing any aid.
Mr. A was urgently arrested near his home two hours after fleeing. Police investigation revealed that Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was at the level warranting license suspension.
It is also known that Mr. A made a "false report" to the police, reporting that "an intoxicated person is lying down."
Meanwhile, the victim, Mr. B, a disabled man in his 30s with a wife and elementary school children, lost consciousness after the accident and eventually died three days later.

A prosecution official stated, "We will do our utmost to maintain the prosecution so that Mr. A receives punishment commensurate with his crime," and added, "We plan to actively support the bereaved family, who are facing economic difficulties due to Mr. B's death, as victims."
