Lee Cheol, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Demands Expansion of Student Loan Interest Support to Graduate Students
The Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 9th that the "Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on Interest Support for University Students' Tuition Loans in Jeonnam," which was proposed by Lee Cheol, a Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member (Democratic Party of Korea·Wando 1), has passed the 371st extraordinary session.
This ordinance includes provisions to expand the interest support benefits, which were previously only available to university students, to graduate students as well, and to extend the application period for the program from 2 years after graduation to 5 years.
Assemblyman Lee Cheol pointed out, "Graduate students facing debt issues due to youth unemployment and high-cost graduate tuition loans have been excluded from interest support and have not received any benefits."
He added, "We will support interest on tuition loans for graduate students as well and extend the application period for unemployed graduates. We will strive to enable university and graduate students in the Jeonnam region to prepare for their future without the burden of educational expenses."
