'K-Tourism Revitalization' Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Holds Meeting of City and Provincial Tourism Directors
Discussion on Cooperation Plans Including the 'Weekend with Travel' Campaign
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 9th that it held a meeting of provincial tourism directors at the National Library in Seocho-gu, chaired by Vice Minister Jo Yong-man, to discuss cooperation measures for revitalizing K-tourism.
At the meeting, the 17 provinces discussed unique strategies for attracting tourists by discovering the charm of local tourism resources and reorganizing the reception system for domestic and international tourists.
The tourism directors from each province attending the meeting discussed holding regional tourism promotion briefings linked to the Ministry’s ‘K-Tourism Roadshow,’ as well as ways to connect ‘Weekends with Travel’ with local festivals and cultural events. They also presented opinions on various projects underway to strengthen regional tourism competitiveness and attract tourists to their areas.
There were many cases of promoting regional tourism activation through workation (remote work from vacation spots), long-term stays such as living for a month, and marketing of local festivals. In addition, they proposed domestic and international collaborative marketing for various international events and tourism events held in each region.
On March 29, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced measures to revitalize K-tourism as part of a government joint domestic demand policy. Currently, efforts are underway to activate regional tourism, convert overseas travel demand to domestic travel, and attract foreign tourists.
Additionally, the agenda included collaborative measures to attract foreign visitors in connection with the ‘2023?2024 Visit Korea Year,’ creating a nationwide travel atmosphere through the ‘Travel Month in June,’ and newly promoting the ‘Weekends with Travel’ campaign to stimulate short weekend travel demand.
