Changwon Special City to Award Scholarships to Workers' University Student Children
Annual Support of 2 Million KRW, Small and Medium Enterprises
Reducing Educational Expense Burden for Workers' Children
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is accepting applications for the "Changwon Special City Scholarship for Children of Small and Medium Enterprise Workers" from the 10th to the 24th of this month. This program supports the welfare improvement and livelihood stability of workers employed in small and medium enterprises within the city by providing scholarships to their university student children.
The eligibility requirements are that the applicant must be a university student child of a worker registered as a resident in Changwon City and employed at a small or medium enterprise within the city as defined in Article 2 of the "Framework Act on Small and Medium Enterprises." The worker and their spouse’s average monthly income must be at or below 150% of the median income in 2023 (up to 8,101,446 KRW for a family of four), and the university student child must have earned a grade of C or higher in the previous academic year. Applications must be submitted with a recommendation from the representative of the small or medium enterprise where the worker is employed or from the labor union. Thirty recipients will be selected, and if the number of applicants exceeds this, the City Adjustment Committee will review and finalize the selections, with payments planned for June.
Applications can be submitted in person at the Eup, Myeon, Dong Administrative Welfare Centers or the City Hall’s Regional Economy Division, or by mail. For detailed information, please refer to the announcement on the city’s official website.
Applicants who receive full tuition support, recipients of the 2022 Changwon City Workers’ Children Scholarship, recipients of the 2023 Gyeongsangnam-do Workers’ Children Scholarship, or whose children are not currently enrolled due to leave of absence, will be excluded from selection. Additionally, if the worker moves out of the city or uses the scholarship funds for purposes other than tuition, the payment will be suspended.
Since its inception in 2016, the Changwon Special City Scholarship for Children of Small and Medium Enterprise Workers has benefited 368 children of workers, with a cumulative disbursement amounting to 463 million KRW.
