Teenage Reckless Drivers Racing Through Downtown Gwangju
Youth engaged in reckless driving in downtown Gwangju, prompting a police investigation.
According to the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju on the 8th, a report was received around 12:42 PM about reckless driving involving motorcycles and passenger cars near the Kookmin Bank intersection on Imbangul-daero in Suwan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Upon receiving the report, the police deployed one detective team, two riot police teams, and patrol cars from nearby police boxes to disperse the group around 5 AM.
Up until just before the dispersal, the control room had received as many as 26 related reports.
During the reckless driving, a teenage boy identified as A, who was riding a motorcycle alone without a license, collided with a passenger car in motion and was injured, but his life is not in danger.
The police estimate that about 50 local youths participated in this reckless driving incident.
It is reported that they gathered using a method called "jwapyo jjikgi" (marking coordinates), where they planned meeting locations through social networking services and then met to carry out the reckless driving.

The police have first booked A on charges of joint dangerous behavior under the Road Traffic Act and plan to continue investigating the peers who participated in the reckless driving.
