Jeong Hyun-bok, Former Mayor of Gwangyang, Passes Away While Battling Blood Cancer
Jeong Hyeon-bok, former mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, passed away on the afternoon of the 4th.
The former mayor passed away at the age of 74 after battling blood cancer at a hospital in Seoul.
A native of Goryak, Gwangyang, the late Jeong graduated from Bangtong High School and Gwangju University, served as the county governor of Sinan and mayor of Gwangyang, and held office as the 7th and 8th mayor of Gwangyang City.
He was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2021 and had been receiving treatment, and he did not run in last year's local elections.
The late Jeong had been on trial for charges including violation of the Anti-Corruption Act.
He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
The funeral is being held at Baegun Funeral Hall in Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do, with the funeral service scheduled for the 6th.
