Gyeongnam Police Agency Arrests Group for Posting Illegal Sexual Videos and Collecting Subscription Fees
Cyber Investigation Unit Arrests 32 Suspects, Detains 6
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency arrested a group who posted illegal sexual videos on social networking services (SNS) and collected subscription fees.
According to the provincial police agency on the 4th, the suspects are accused of uploading various illegal sexual videos on paid subscription-based SNS platforms from October 2021 to the present and earning profits by collecting subscription fees from paid subscribers.
The police apprehended 32 suspects who distributed obscene materials, detained 6 of them, and recovered approximately 2.92 billion KRW in criminal proceeds.
The suspects mainly posted parts of illegal sexual videos and nude photos on SNS platforms such as Twitter to promote their SNS accounts and induce paid subscriptions, gathering 110,000 subscribers.
They provided paid subscribers with sexual intercourse videos they directly produced or participated in, posting around 2,000 videos on the accounts.
The provincial police cyber investigation unit obtained intelligence on this new type of crime involving the distribution of illegal sexual videos through paid subscription-based SNS platforms based overseas, formulated an investigation plan, and started the investigation in September 2021, arresting the group after one and a half years.
