National Balanced Development Committee Visits Suncheon Expo Site for Regional Balanced Development

4th Local Era Workshop Held in Suncheon

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu) announced on the 3rd that the 4th Local Era Workshop, hosted by the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, was held at the Garden Expo site.

The Local Era Workshop of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development was organized to visit local industrial sites, identify issues in local communities, and explore ways to foster local industries and create local jobs.

At the 4th workshop, Strategic Planning Chairman Lee Jung-hyun and about 70 members of the National Balanced Development Planning Group attended. The schedule included visits to industrial sites in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do, starting from Suncheon Garden Expo, followed by Gwangyang Steelworks and Yeosu Chemical Complex.

Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu welcomed and expressed gratitude to the National Balanced Development Planning Group at Ocheon Green Square, who made a valuable trip to tour the Garden Expo site.

Then, Mayor Noh personally explained the core spaces of the Garden Expo, Ocheon Green Square and Green Island, sharing the meaning of the Garden Expo and the process and success strategies behind how this expo, held again after 10 years, was differentiated and prepared with high completeness, receiving enthusiastic applause from the participants.

Afterwards, the National Balanced Development Planning Group moved to the expo site and toured every corner from Noeul Garden to Garden Stay, the Botanical Garden, and the Secret Garden.

Mayor Noh said, “While preparing the Garden Expo, I thought that even though it is a local project, the results should not be made unsophisticated. President Yoon Seok-yeol, who attended the opening ceremony, also mentioned that if the level is like Suncheon’s, authority could be delegated to local governments to grant autonomy. Through the Garden Expo, we will show a new milestone for future cities on how cities should change.”

A representative of the National Balanced Development Planning Group said, “The Garden Expo is very meaningful in terms of regional balanced development. The Balanced Committee will actively support local regions to develop their unique characteristics and grow their capabilities for genuine region-led balanced development.”
