Lycom Secures Initial Order for Autonomous Micro LiDAR Laser Testing from Nasdaq-listed Company
Lycom announced on the 3rd that it has successfully secured an initial order for test quantities of the ultra-compact "Pulsed Fiber Laser," a core component of vehicle autonomous driving LiDAR, from the Nasdaq-listed global leading autonomous driving LiDAR company "L." The "Pulsed Fiber Laser" is the world's smallest laser sensor for LiDAR. This order is for test samples to evaluate product performance, and if it passes the test, it is expected to be applied to various product lineups of L.
The ultra-compact Pulsed Fiber Laser is a strategic new product developed by Lycom after a total of 10 years of research and development, including 5 years of basic research. It is not only the smallest fiber laser product for LiDAR in the world but also uses a wavelength harmless to the human eye, making it an optimal product specification as a core component of autonomous driving.
Earlier this year, Lycom participated in the overseas exhibition "Photonics West" and unveiled the ultra-compact Pulsed Fiber Laser product to the global market for the first time. Photonics West is the world's largest exhibition in the industrial laser field, held annually in the United States. This year, more than 1,000 companies worldwide, including 18 domestic companies (including Lycom), and 22,000 people participated.
At Photonics West, L directly visited Lycom's booth and expressed great interest by inquiring about the performance, specifications, and applicability of the ultra-compact Pulsed Fiber Laser for vehicle autonomous driving. After the exhibition, several detailed follow-up discussions were held, and as a result, Lycom officially received a request from L to supply test quantities and is currently producing initial sample quantities.
L, established in 2012, is a global top-level LiDAR and application software company that succeeded in commercializing LiDAR using the world's first 1550-nanometer harmless wavelength light. It has partnerships with leading global automotive companies such as Tesla, Volvo, and Toyota, advancing vehicle autonomous driving technology.
A Lycom official said, "Based on the technology and know-how accumulated through over 10 years of research and development and national defense projects, we have succeeded in commercializing the ultra-compact Pulsed Fiber Laser product as an industrial product," adding, "The first order was made with a global company building autonomous driving solutions and related industrial networks, demonstrating the product's high attractiveness, so we expect continuous love calls from autonomous driving-related companies."
Lycom was established in November 1999 and has produced and sold ▲ autonomous driving LiDAR sensors including optical amplifiers ▲ optical transceivers for wired broadcasting ▲ optical repeater modules that facilitate mobile phone radio reception. Recently, it developed new fiber lasers such as the ultra-compact Pulsed Fiber Laser and succeeded in its first order, which is expected to accelerate performance growth.
