Jinju City Cracks Down on 3 Entertainment Bars Employing Illegal Immigrants
Conducted to Create a Safe Social Environment Including Food Hygiene
Jinju City in Gyeongnam conducted a crackdown on entertainment bars to ensure a safe social environment, including food safety, ahead of the ‘2023 Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships’ starting on the 3rd.
This crackdown was carried out on April 29 at 1:30 a.m. following a tip-off that “illegal immigrants were being employed at night to engage in entertainment services.” A total of 26 personnel, including officials and interpreters from Jinju City, Jinju Police Station, and Changwon Immigration Office, participated in the operation.
During the operation, 12 Vietnamese nationals who had entered the country under student or travel visas but were illegally staying were apprehended. Additionally, a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A of Vietnamese nationality, tested positive for ecstasy in an on-site rapid drug test and was urgently arrested on suspicion of drug use.
The illegal immigrants are scheduled to be deported after investigation by the Changwon Immigration Office, while the employers have been reported for violating the Immigration Control Act. The entertainment bar involved will face administrative sanctions under the Food Sanitation Act.
