‘People Protecting Darangnon’ Traditional Farming Culture Experience Event
From the 21st to the 24th, Haman-gun, Gyeongnam, launched the Darangnon Sharing Project with consumers at Jujugol, Yeohang-myeon.
The Darangnon Sharing Project was an event organized by Arassi Atdeuri Community Farming Corporation to preserve and utilize the terraced rice paddies of Jujugol. About 100 participants, including producers and consumers, engaged in agricultural experiences through this exchange.
On this day, the experience included learning the wisdom of using valley water flowing into the terraced paddies, making seedling trays which account for half of farming, crafting farming tools, and eating noodles as a snack, providing an opportunity to understand the efforts of the community to preserve various native rice varieties.
Following the seedling tray making, on May 27, a rice planting event with agricultural songs will be held together with consumers who participated in this event.
The terraced rice paddies of Jujugol in Haman were once greatly reduced due to a development boom, and with unstable rice prices and conversion to other crops, the old appearance of the terraced paddies is disappearing. Concerned about this, the community persuaded producers and invited consumers to hold an event to raise awareness about the value of rice grown in the terraced paddies and the importance of the environment.

Ahn Byung-guk, director of the County Agricultural Technology Center, said, “The native rice seedling tray making experience was a good opportunity to help urban residents recognize the value of native rice and to promote active urban-rural exchange. We hope many consumers will participate in the May rice planting event with agricultural songs to experience traditional farming culture.”
