Boseong-gun Hosts National Jangsa Ssireum Tournament for the President of the Korean Sports Council
Single-elimination until quarterfinals, best-of-three in semifinals and finals
Opportunity to promote Boseong as the sports mecca nationwide
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold the "1st Korea Sports Council President's National Jangsa Ssireum Tournament" at the Dahyang Gymnasium from April 30 to May 6 during the 11th Boseong World Tea Expo.
This newly established tournament this year is hosted by the Korea Ssireum Association and organized by the Boseong-gun Sports Council and Boseong-gun Ssireum Association, with a total of about 930 athletes registered to participate.

The tournament will be attended by Hwang Kyung-soo, president of the Korea Ssireum Association and a coach who has produced numerous Cheonhajangsa champions such as Lee Man-gi and Kang Ho-dong, who will deliver the opening ceremony address.
The matches will be held in five individual and team events, divided into elementary, middle, high school, university, and women's divisions, conducted in a tournament format.
From the preliminary rounds to the quarterfinals, matches will be single elimination, while the semifinals and finals will be best-of-three matches to determine the winner.
From 1 PM on May 2, the opening ceremony and the women's individual and team finals will be broadcast live on the 'MBC SPORTS +' channel until May 4, and real-time match viewing will also be available on the YouTube channels 'Korea Ssireum Association - The Ssireum LIVE' and 'Satba TV'.
Kim Cheol-woo, governor of Boseong-gun, said, "We are pleased to host the ssireum tournament, a traditional folk sport designated as a national intangible cultural asset and registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in Boseong-gun," adding, "We will promote Boseong, which is emerging as a sports mecca, nationwide and create a festival venue where all participants can enjoy safely and comfortably."
