Ulsan Boosts 'Manufacturing Startups'... Opens First Open Workshop Lab
The 'Manufacturing Startup' project has set sail in Ulsan. The first 'Open Production Studio Specialized Research Institute' is opening its doors.
On the 21st at 3 PM, Ulsan City will hold the opening ceremony of the maker space specialized lab 'U-SPACE' at Ulsan Technopark, attended by about 50 people including Labor Director Dongwan Noh.
The 'Maker Space Specialized Lab' supports specialized creative innovation activities such as the production of functional chemical materials and industrial parts prototypes and mass production, promoting manufacturing startups. It is also a space that connects innovation infrastructure such as equipment and experts.
Until now, there was no open production studio specialized research institute in the Ulsan area, making it difficult to activate the maker space ecosystem.
In 2022, Ulsan Technopark was designated as a lab and has been renovating the space and building equipment over the past year, now beginning operations.
U-SPACE is equipped not only with basic prototype production equipment such as 3D printers and CNC machines but also with a CMF (Color, Material, Finishing) library to strengthen design competitiveness, and a maker green lab, an eco-friendly production laboratory for developing everyday products like cosmetics. It also includes an upcycling workshop that creates new value using waste resources, and a maker caf? for education and networking events.
Additionally, a technical doctor human resource pool consisting of about 200 external experts has been established to support the entire manufacturing startup process.
A new manufacturing startup network linking four local general maker space labs and one specialized lab will be built, expanding to innovation institutions related to startups, strengthening connections between prototype production and mass production, and serving as a hub for fostering local manufacturing startups.
For more detailed information on using U-SPACE and participating in programs, please refer to the Makeall website or the Ulsan Technopark website.

Labor Director Dongwan Noh said, “Even though prospective entrepreneurs had good ideas, they faced many difficulties in productizing due to lack of infrastructure, personnel, and experience. Through the operation of U-SPACE, we hope to revitalize local manufacturing startups and nurture new startup companies to contribute to the expansion of the local core industries and new industry ecosystem.”
