On the 8th, Yoo Chang-hoon, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, announced that a detention warrant was issued for Yu on charges of instigating robbery and murder. The warrant was granted due to concerns over evidence tampering and flight risk. The Seoul Suseo Police Station applied for Yu's detention warrant on the 5th.
Yu is identified as the mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder of a woman in her 40s that occurred in front of an apartment complex in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu on the 29th of last month. Yu is accused of instructing suspects Lee Kyung-woo (36), Hwang Dae-han (36), and Yeon Ji-ho (36) to commit robbery and murder.
The police believe Yu instigated the robbery and murder based on evidence that he gave Lee Kyung-woo tens of millions of won and contacted him after the crime. However, Yu's side denies the charges. Yu's lawyer stated, "Out of 40 million won, 35 million won was simply a loan given in 2021 with a 5-year repayment period and 2% interest rate," and added, "The 60 million won Lee Kyung-woo demanded after the crime was not given."

Yu and the victim are known to be connected through investment in the cryptocurrency 'Purever.' It is reported that their relationship deteriorated after Purever's market price dropped in 2021. Uninetwork, the issuer of Purever, stated that Yu and others are not related to the kidnapping and murder case.
