Sunchang-gun Launches Slate Disposal Support Project with 1.3 Billion KRW Investment

On the 5th, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk Province announced that it will promote the ‘2023 Slate Disposal Support Project’ to protect the health of residents and improve the landscape of rural villages.

The county plans to invest a total of 1.3 billion KRW this year to support disposal costs for 280 houses using slate roofing or walls, 35 non-residential buildings such as auxiliary buildings, warehouses, and livestock barns, and 20 roof renovations.

The support amount is up to 7 million KRW for houses, up to 5.4 million KRW for non-residential buildings, and up to 3 million KRW for roof renovations; any amount exceeding the support limit must be borne by the applicant.

However, for priority support households such as basic livelihood security recipients and low-income families, full support is provided for slate removal from houses, and roof renovations can be supported up to 10 million KRW.

The county plans to increase the slate removal and disposal cost support to a maximum of 7 million KRW per building, up 3.48 million KRW from last year, to prevent cases where applicants give up on the project due to excessive self-payments.

Choi Young-il, the county governor, said, “We will do our best to create a happy Sunchang for all residents by promoting the disposal project for old and neglected slate to protect residents’ health from asbestos, a Group 1 carcinogen.”

Meanwhile, since recruiting applicants from January, the county has selected a total of 255 households and is proceeding with the project. Additional applications can be submitted by bringing the application form and required documents to the administrative welfare center in the building’s location town or township by the deadline on the 31st.
