Kim Dong-yeon’s First US-Japan Business Trip Since Inauguration... Investment Attraction Amount Reaches 4 Trillion Won
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is embarking on his first investment attraction trip to the United States and Japan since taking office.
On the 5th, Gyeonggi Province announced that a delegation led by Governor Kim will visit major cities in the U.S. and Japan from the 9th to the 19th of this month for 11 days and 9 nights, aiming to attract overseas investment, expand opportunities for youth, and build innovation alliances.
The provincial delegation will first visit five regions in the U.S.?Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Virginia?from the 9th to the 15th, and then Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan from the 16th to the 19th.
Through this overseas visit, the delegation plans to secure a total investment of $3.26 billion (approximately 4.3 trillion KRW) from six overseas companies.
Governor Kim previously promised to attract 100 trillion KRW in investments from domestic and international companies. So far, about 5 trillion KRW in investments have been secured, and during this overseas trip, he plans to attract an additional investment exceeding 4 trillion KRW.
Regarding specific investment achievements, the delegation will finalize a mega investment worth $2.3 billion (approximately 3 trillion KRW) with Company A, a renowned U.S. logistics real estate developer. Additionally, investment agreements exceeding 1 trillion KRW will be signed with three companies, including two global semiconductor gas manufacturers and a semiconductor company. In Japan, investment agreements worth 230 billion KRW will be made with two innovative companies located in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Alongside investment attraction, the delegation will establish cooperative systems with prestigious U.S. universities and the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA) to expand opportunities for youth.
The Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program is designed to provide youth in Gyeonggi Province with opportunities to realize higher dreams through overseas university training and local cultural experiences, encouraging diverse career development and a spirit of challenge. It is expected to help reduce social disparities and provide opportunities for social mobility.
Furthermore, efforts will be made to solidify innovation alliances focusing on the innovative economy sectors such as eco-friendly mobility, secondary batteries, and renewable energy.
To this end, the delegation will visit Michigan, the heart of the U.S. automotive industry, to observe the current status of automotive technology development in the U.S.
Governor Kim will particularly discuss cooperation plans on innovative economy topics such as eco-friendly mobility, secondary batteries, and carbon neutrality with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Additionally, invited by World-OKTA, the largest economic organization of overseas Koreans, Governor Kim will attend the opening ceremony of the '24th World Representatives Convention' held in Tokyo, Japan, where he will deliver a keynote speech and sign three agreements related to export support, the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program, and more.
He will also hold a meeting with Yuji Kuroiwa, Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture, Gyeonggi Province’s first sister region in Asia, to discuss cooperation plans in areas such as the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program, biohealth, sports, and cultural arts.
