National Police Agency Chief Meets FBI Director to Discuss Cooperation on Cyber and Counterterrorism Threats
Actively Responding to Cybersecurity and Threats
Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, met with Christopher Wray, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), at the FBI headquarters on the 4th (local time) to discuss joint response measures to regional security threats and cybercrime.

View original imageDuring the meeting, they discussed comprehensive public safety cooperation, including joint response to cyber threats, strengthening counterterrorism and security cooperation, expanding personnel exchanges, and promoting educational cooperation to enhance police capabilities. This meeting marks the first in four years since Director Christopher Wray's visit to Korea in September 2019.
Commissioner Yoon stated, "Today's meeting, held ahead of the summit in the 70th year of the Korea-US alliance, is the perfect opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the investigative agencies of both countries." He added, "The strong solidarity and cooperative relationship between the two agencies, which possess top-level investigative capabilities, will be a source of power to deter and eliminate the threats we face."
FBI Director Christopher Wray responded, "We have been closely cooperating to respond to cyber and security threats," and said, "We should utilize the investigative authority, technology, and public-private cooperation relationships possessed by both agencies as a joint strategy."
On the 3rd, Commissioner Yoon visited the FBI Academy to inspect the educational facilities and operational systems. He also proposed the establishment of new courses and joint development of educational programs at the International Police Capacity Enhancement Center, which is scheduled for completion in 2025.

The National Police Agency stated, "We expect that this meeting will serve as a turning point for both agencies to resume personnel exchanges that were suspended due to COVID-19 and to develop a cooperative relationship to protect businesses and social infrastructure from the rapidly increasing cyber and security threats."
