A man in his 40s who stalked a teenage disabled female student just one month after being released from prison for a sex crime was sentenced to prison.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 2nd, Judge Kim Taehwan of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 16 sentenced A (46) to one year in prison for violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes and theft charges.
A was indicted on charges of stalking a teenage disabled student, B, near the ticket gate of a subway station in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, on December 21, 2021. At the time of the crime, he followed B onto the subway, transferred to a bus, and followed her to school, watching her while trying to assess her intellectual ability by even talking to her.
A had previously been sentenced to one year and six months in prison in May 2020 for forcibly molesting a disabled person using a similar method and was released from Anyang Prison in Gyeonggi Province in November of the following year. He stalked B again just one month after his release, and in April and May of last year, he was also charged with stealing a gold bracelet worth 1.5 million won and a bicycle worth 180,000 won, respectively.

Judge Kim pointed out, "The defendant chased a minor victim with a leg disability, asked questions to assess her intellectual ability, and committed another crime just one month after completing the prison sentence for forcibly molesting a disabled person," adding, "The nature of the crime is very serious." Regarding the sentencing, he explained, "Although the stolen gold bracelet was returned, the bicycle was not, and the defendant did not reach an agreement with the victims, which were taken into consideration."
