Gwangju Nonghyup Union Chief Faces Additional Allegations of 'Illegal Land Purchase'
Additional allegations have been raised regarding the illegal land purchase by the head of a Nonghyup branch in Gwangju, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
The Anti-Corruption Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 29th that they have booked the current head of a Nonghyup branch in Gwangju, Mr. A, without detention and are investigating the case.
Mr. A is under investigation by the police following allegations of distributing money and goods during this year's nationwide simultaneous Nonghyup head elections, as well as reports of embezzlement and irregularities in hiring.
Additionally, suspicions have arisen that he purchased land designated as a military protection facility at a price significantly higher than the appraised value under the pretext of establishing a local food direct sales store. The police are verifying the facts by merging this with previous investigations.
Other related parties have recently submitted separate complaints requesting confirmation of irregularities in the land purchase.
The investigation team is not conducting any forced searches such as raids on the Nonghyup branch but is analyzing materials voluntarily submitted by the Nonghyup side to determine if there are any criminal charges.
A police official stated, "Since the investigation is currently in its early stages and the criminal charges have not been clearly established, it is difficult to confirm specific criminal facts."
The Nonghyup branch involved has explained that "the land purchase was conducted through proper procedures."
