Busan Museum of Modern Art Operates Docent Program for Children Friends
Open Every Saturday Until April 15
‘Postmodern Children’ Audience Interaction
Busan Museum of Modern Art has been operating a "Docent Program for Children" every Saturday from March 18 to April 15, aimed at elementary school students to provide exhibition explanations.
Visitors to the museum range from toddlers to adults, each visiting with their own communication styles and interests. The first docent program of 2023 is designed specifically for children, considering their unique communication characteristics.
The docent program for child visitors is linked to the exhibition "Postmodern Children," encouraging active participation rather than just viewing, allowing children to think about the meaning on their own.
Additionally, the terminology and content used are tailored to the elementary school level to provide an appropriate docent experience.
Five docents selected as educational supporters of Busan Museum of Modern Art this year facilitate active exhibition understanding by connecting children's experiences with the exhibition through questions, storytelling, and activity sheets, encouraging children to engage in dialogue.
Through the diverse exhibition explanations by the five docents, children are expected to have ample time to communicate with the artworks rather than receiving one-sided information, viewing the exhibition from various perspectives at a pace suitable for their understanding.
The docent program for children will be linked with the upcoming second part of "Postmodern Children" and the ecology-themed exhibition for children "Singing Land," scheduled for the second half of 2023, inviting children through various forms of docent programs.
A representative of the Museum of Modern Art stated, "We hope that through this docent program, growing children will recognize the museum as a fun and comfortable space and remember it as a valuable artistic experience."
