The People Power Party confirmed that Mr. Lee, who sparked public outrage by displaying a Japanese Rising Sun flag on his home balcony on March 1st, is a party member and has expelled him from the party.

Secretary-General Lee said, "He engaged in behavior completely contrary to the common sense of ordinary party members. We immediately convened the party affairs committee, and the Sejong City party branch disciplined him and requested his expulsion," adding, "(Mr. Lee) resigned from the party immediately."
He further added, "Nearby residents knew him as someone capable of such actions."
He also explained, "The party has nearly 4 million ordinary members, so it is impossible to know each one individually, and there is no proper system to screen qualifications when members join the party."
