This amount far exceeded the initial estimated price of $1 million to $2 million (approximately 1.3 billion to 2.6 billion KRW).
The moon jar, offered by a Japanese private collector, stands 45.1 cm tall, making it larger than typical moon jars.
Christie's stated, "It is characterized by its elegant shape and beautiful milky white color, preserved in excellent condition without any restoration. Such Joseon ceramics in this condition are very rare, making it highly valuable, and it is estimated to be the finest moon jar to have appeared at auction in the past decade."
At the same auction, a smaller 18th-century moon jar, measuring 30.2 cm in height, was also sold.
The winning bid was $100,800 (approximately 130 million KRW).
