Opening of the New Entrance and Exit Ramp at Gyeongbu Expressway Giheung Interchange on the 23rd
Seoul to Dongtan2 Direction Opened
Opposite Direction Scheduled to Open in April
Korea Expressway Corporation announced on the 21st that it will open a newly constructed exit connection lane at the Gyeongbu Expressway Giheung Interchange (Seoul → Dongtan 2 New City direction) from 3 PM on the 23rd.
The exit connection lane was promoted as part of the metropolitan traffic improvement measures related to the development of Dongtan 2 New City. Until now, heavy congestion occurred at the roundabout in front of the former Giheung tollgate due to the opening of large shopping malls and other facilities.
Starting two days later, vehicles will be able to move directly to Dongtan 2 New City without passing through the roundabout, which is expected to alleviate the previous traffic congestion. However, due to remaining connection lane improvement works, only 2 out of the total 4 lanes will be opened initially: one lane for Hi-Pass and one lane for the manned toll collection system (TCS). The entrance connection lane in the opposite direction (Dongtan 2 New City → Seoul) is scheduled to open in April.

A representative from the Expressway Corporation said, "Since only 2 out of the total 4 lanes will be open, we ask drivers to slow down to below 30 km/h when passing through the Hi-Pass lane," and added, "We will also strive to complete the remaining construction as scheduled."
