Busan City and the Free Citizens Busan Union will hold the ‘2030 Busan World Expo Hosting Support Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Citizens Rally and Silver Supporters Launch Ceremony’ at 2 p.m. on the 21st in the main auditorium on the first floor of City Hall.
This event is a gathering of 600 citizens from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam who have volunteered as Silver Supporters for the 2030 World Expo, which will be a catalyst for South Korea’s future development and balanced national growth, and the greatest gift for future generations.
The event will be attended by about 600 people including Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Kang Do-yong, Standing Representative of the Free Citizens Busan Union, Kim Jin-su, Standing Chairman of the National Council of Free Democratic Patriotic Organizations, Kang Dong-ho, Chairman of the Free Citizens General Ulsan, and citizens from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam. The program will proceed in the following order: ▲Pre-event performance (Expo promotional video screening and wind orchestra performance) ▲Congratulatory and welcoming speeches ▲Slogan chanting ▲Reading of the Silver Supporters’ pledge and appointment of representatives (Supporters’ co-representatives: Choi In-cheon and Han Seon-sim) ▲Celebratory performance ▲Three cheers ▲Commemorative photo session.
In particular, during the slogan chanting session, about 600 citizens from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam will raise their voices together to express their wish for the successful hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo, intensifying the enthusiasm for the bid.
The hosting support slogans are ▲“Let’s unite all sectors of South Korea to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan!” ▲“Let’s host the 2030 World Expo in Busan and achieve groundbreaking development for Busan!”
The Free Citizens Busan Union, which is organizing this event, is conducting various promotional activities for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid this year, a crucial year that will determine the fate of the bid.
They have been continuously carrying out the New Year 2030 street campaign and hosting promotional campaigns, and through today’s event, they plan to actively participate in major programs such as welcoming the International Bureau of Expositions’ on-site inspection team, centered on the 600 newly appointed Silver Supporters, contributing to creating a hosting boom.
The 600 Silver Supporters being appointed this time are not only composed of Busan citizens but also include citizens from the three cities and provinces of Ulsan and Gyeongnam, making it even more meaningful.
This signifies that the 2030 Busan World Expo is not merely a regional event for Busan but a mega event leading South Korea’s future development, with hosting activities carried out as one team beyond regional boundaries.
Also, the number 600 of appointees is a symbolic number derived from multiplying 20 and 30, representing the year ‘2030’ when the World Expo will be held.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “South Korea is the only country with a history of rapid growth from a least developed country to an advanced nation in a short period, and the silver generation participating as supporters are the main contributors who made today’s South Korea.” He added, “I thank the supporters who participated in the event beyond generational and regional boundaries ahead of the final announcement of the 2030 World Expo host city, and we will do our best to ensure that this enthusiasm for the bid is fully conveyed during the International Bureau of Expositions’ on-site inspection scheduled for April.”
