Kim Hyung-mi, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Points Out Issues with 'Small Business Management Support Center'
Kim Hyung-mi, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, raised concerns about the overall operation of the recently opened Small Business Management Support Center (hereinafter referred to as the Support Center) during a 5-minute free speech at the 2nd plenary session of the 310th extraordinary meeting, urging the executive branch to take measures for the stable operation of the Support Center.
The Support Center was introduced as a campaign promise for an alley-centered economic city, with an annual budget of about 1 billion KRW allocated for 3 sectors and 13 policies. Its purpose is to provide practical support to small business owners through the hiring of private experts.
In her 5-minute free speech, Councilor Kim Hyung-mi pointed out that most of the 13 projects, including the absence of designated shopping districts for the ‘Alley-type Shopping District,’ the untimely implementation of the ‘Standing Again Project,’ the lack of capability of the person in charge of the ‘Small Business Online Business Support Project,’ and the failure to establish plans for ‘Building Cooperative Networks, Online Communication Channels, and Commercial Area Surveys,’ have not been promoted, expressing concerns about whether the Support Center will fulfill its role.
Councilor Kim also mentioned issues regarding the overall hiring of the center director, who is key to promoting projects for small business owners, questioning whether a director hired solely based on private sector experience, which is difficult to acknowledge, can comprehensively oversee Seo-gu’s small business support policies and sincerely carry out projects for small business owners.
She continued, “I am concerned whether the Small Business Support Center, which aims to support and assist 40,000 small business owners, will fulfill its role,” and stated, “I urge the Seo-gu Office to inspect the overall operation of the Support Center and prepare fundamental measures so that Seo-gu’s alley economy can be revitalized through practical project implementation for small business owners.”
