Jeju Fire Department Prepares Fire Safety Measures for Facilities Used by Cruise Tourists
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Kim Suhwan) has initiated fire safety measures focusing on facilities used by foreign tourists as international cruise arrivals, which had been halted for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have fully resumed.
According to the Jeju Fire Headquarters on the 16th, with the resumption of cruise arrivals from this day, it is expected that about 100,000 foreign tourists will visit annually, primarily using passenger terminals, traditional markets, and duty-free shops.
The Jeju Fire Headquarters conducted fire safety inspections on facilities used by foreign tourists to proactively prevent various safety accidents such as fires and to establish a rapid response system.

The targets include two passenger terminals (Jeju Port International Passenger Terminal, Seogwipo Gangjeong Cruise Terminal) and two duty-free shops (Lotte Duty-Free, Shilla Duty-Free).
The main inspection items were checking for closure or blockage of fire-fighting facilities and their maintenance status, pre-removal of evacuation obstacles such as evacuation routes, and inspection of management status of electricity, gas, and hazardous materials.
Fire safety consulting tailored to vulnerable targets was also conducted, focusing on related personnel to strengthen guidance and supervision for autonomous safety management systems and maintenance of fire-fighting facilities.
In particular, Dongmun Market and Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market underwent separate fire safety consulting under the responsibility of the fire station chiefs, striving to prepare thorough fire safety measures.
A representative of the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters said, "As cruise tourism fully resumes after three years, we conducted meticulous safety inspections of major facilities. We will continue to thoroughly prepare safety measures for tourist facilities and take the lead in fostering a safety culture in Jeju."
