Gwangjin-gu Recommends Walking Paths in Walking Challenge
From March 13 to 31, open to all Gwangjin-gu residents and workers
Recommend your own hidden walking course in Gwangjin-gu and certify achieving 100,000 steps
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) is holding the 'March Our District Walking Path Recommendation Challenge' to welcome the warm spring.
The Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center launched this project to promote healthy physical activity and encourage walking in daily life for residents who find regular exercise difficult due to busy schedules.
Walking is the easiest and safest aerobic exercise accessible anytime, anywhere, and at no cost, effective for preventing chronic diseases, reducing body fat, and relieving stress.
The challenge runs for 20 days from March 13 to 31 and is open to all Gwangjin-gu residents and workers.
Participants can join by sending a recommendation of a hidden walking course in Gwangjin-gu and a photo certifying 100,000 cumulative steps along with their personal information to the 'Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center Exercise Education Room' KakaoTalk channel during the challenge period.
Notably, walking course recommendations should be unique hidden paths rather than well-known spots like Achasan Donghaeng Forest Trail, Children's Grand Park, or Konkuk University Ilgamho. Examples include Jungnangcheon → Junggok Station → Ginkgo Park, or any freely chosen routes.
The 100,000-step certification photo can be taken with any pedometer app that tracks step count during the challenge period.
Among those who complete the walking challenge, 100 people will be selected by lottery to receive a peanut massage ball.
For more details, visit the Gwangjin-gu website or contact the Health Policy Division.
Earlier in January this year, the New Year's Resolution 100,000 Steps Walking Challenge was held, with 261 participants successfully reaching the goal.
Mayor Kim Kyungho said, “We hope many will recommend their own hidden walking spots beyond the well-known walking destinations in our district and enjoy exercising and becoming healthier with the coming spring.”
Nowon-gu Presents ‘World Travel Following Harim’s Music’ Performances
April 13 and May 11 at 7:30 PM, Nowon Cultural Arts Center Small Theater
Harim, loved for songs like ‘Incurable Disease’ and ‘Departure’ and featured on TV program ‘Begin Again,’ presents a world music concert
Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seungrok) announced it has prepared a travel-themed performance to welcome the spring regained with the recovery of daily life.
As the COVID-19 pandemic stabilizes and the weather warms, interest in travel has greatly increased. However, many find it difficult to realize actual travel due to busy daily lives.
In response, the district planned a concert featuring singer Harim, who has performed world music (pop music influenced by various regions, especially Africa and Asia) based on years of travel experience. The music evokes the vast nature and exotic atmosphere of Africa to soothe the longing for travel and the tired hearts of modern people.
The concert titled ‘World Travel Following Harim’s Music’ will be held on April 13 and May 11 at 7:30 PM at the Nowon Cultural Arts Center Small Theater, lasting 75 minutes.
The first concert on April 13 is ‘Traveling Africa through Music: Africa Overland.’ Harim, also a goodwill ambassador for the Korea-Africa Foundation, will perform songs created during his multiple trips to Africa, including ▲Jambo Africa ▲Baobab Tree ▲Masai Boy. Following his lyrics and melodies will make the audience feel as if walking on the African savannah.
The second concert on May 11 is ‘World Travel Following the Gypsies: Gypsy Table.’ This performance will feature a natural atmosphere where friends gather around a table singing and dancing to ▲Irish Polka ▲Gypsy Romance ▲La Vie en Rose. A mime artist (who imitates real life or dances without words) will appear to express ‘travel’ physically and recreate a lively gypsy party.
Following the gypsies’ musical journey, the audience will travel from France to Ireland, Greece, and back to France. Traditional instruments introduced on the TV program ‘Begin Again’ such as the Drehleier (Germany), Bouzouki (Greece), and Irish Whistle (Ireland) will also be featured, offering diverse world music.
Tickets can be reserved by phone, on the Nowon Cultural Foundation website, or Interpark Ticket. All seats are 30,000 KRW, with a 30% discount for Nowon Cultural Foundation paid members.
Mayor Oh Seungrok said, “I hope residents enjoy a moment of relaxation and healing through the performance amid busy daily lives. We will do our best to attract better performances so residents can enjoy culture as part of everyday life.”
Seongbuk-gu Residents’ Autonomous Associations Accept Resident Agenda Project Proposals for Each Neighborhood’s Autonomous Plan Until March 31
Any Seongbuk-gu resident can apply; plans to reflect in 2024 budget through resident general meetings
Seongbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Seungro) is accepting resident agenda project proposals for the Seongbuk-style autonomous plan until March 31.
The autonomous plan involves drafting the business plan of the residents’ autonomous association. It identifies issues and improvements residents have felt in daily life that can change the neighborhood, allowing residents to directly propose and decide on projects. This process encourages diverse resident participation to deliberate and solve local problems on-site together.
Any Seongbuk-gu resident can apply for project proposals. The submission period is from March 1 to March 31. Applicants can fill out the form available on the Seongbuk-gu website or at community centers and submit it by visiting the local residents’ autonomous association office, community center, or by email.
The agendas submitted by neighborhood will be thoroughly discussed and refined within the autonomous association, and relevant departments will review project feasibility. Final decisions will be made through resident general meetings as each neighborhood’s autonomous plan. Selected resident-proposed projects will be included in the 2024 budget and implemented through the neighborhood autonomous associations.
In 2022, 20 neighborhood autonomous plans were established through resident general meetings, discovering 566 local agendas across education, culture, history, welfare, care, health, and other fields. A total of 148 resident-proposed projects were selected, with a budget of about 180 million KRW allocated for implementation this year. Resident-proposed projects, directly suggested by residents and carried out with the autonomous association and residents, form the foundation for sustainable resident autonomy development.
Lee Seungro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “We will strengthen our role as a partner in resident autonomy and provide unwavering support so residents can actively engage with and solve community issues.”
