Daejeon City Invests 5.7 Billion KRW in Customized Support for Corporate Intellectual Property Rights
Daejeon City is collaborating with the Korean Intellectual Property Office to support local companies in securing intellectual property competitiveness.
On the 15th, the city announced that it will provide customized intellectual property support services for local companies through the 2023 Intellectual Property Development Project.
The main projects include ▲supporting innovative growth and strengthening technological competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises ▲functioning as a hub city for intellectual property ▲promoting the startup and attraction of intellectual property service companies ▲fostering intellectual property star companies ▲and enhancing the intellectual property capabilities of small business owners.
The city will invest a total of 5.7 billion KRW in these projects. Through this, it plans to support the rights acquisition of innovative technologies by local SMEs, patent technology transfer and valuation, IP product innovation, participation in international invention exhibitions, and response to international intellectual property disputes.
Additionally, to foster the intellectual property hub city, the city will hold intellectual property conferences and provide support for patent mutual aid subscription and technology transfer costs.
Han Seon-hee, Director of the Strategic Business Promotion Office of the city, stated, “Daejeon is the center of intellectual property in Korea, hosting many specialized institutions related to patents such as the Korean Intellectual Property Office, Patent Court, Korea Intellectual Property Information Service, and Korea Institute of Patent Strategy Development.” He added, “In particular, the city possesses world-class intellectual property resources, ranking third globally in science and technology intensity as announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).”

He continued, “As this is a time when intellectual property is emphasized more than ever to overcome technological hegemony competition and economic recession, we will actively work to discover and spread successful cases of companies through intellectual property.”
