[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Thirty-four people, including the mastermind of an organization that illegally employed foreign women and brokered prostitution, were arrested by the police.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Vice Crime Investigation Team announced that from January 2019 to February of this year, they arrested 34 people including the organization mastermind Mr. A (42) who brokered prostitution with foreign women in officetels located in Geumcheon-gu, Dobong-gu, and Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. Among them, five key operators including the mastermind, brokers, and middle managers were sent to prosecution in custody.
They had been operating prostitution businesses since January 2019 and were confirmed to have systematically managed a total of 10 prostitution business locations. In the process, they reportedly divided roles and positions such as managers and business directors to avoid police crackdowns.
Customers involved in prostitution handed payments ranging from 80,000 to 250,000 KRW to Mr. A, who committed the crimes by sharing the profits. The police confiscated a 66 million KRW officetel rental deposit before indictment and notified the National Tax Service of tax data related to 860 million KRW in criminal proceeds.
