Pukyong National University Student Wins Excellence Award at Korea Exchange Securities and Derivatives Competition
Students from Pukyong National University received the Excellence Award (Korea Exchange Chairman's Award), which is the 2nd place prize, along with a cash prize of 6 million KRW at the 18th National University Student Securities and Derivatives Competition recently held by the Korea Exchange.
The competition has been held annually since 2005 by the Korea Exchange to discover outstanding talent in the capital market. It is conducted by evaluating research reports related to the securities and derivatives markets submitted by teams of four university students.
The student team from Pukyong National University’s Securities Investment Club SIC, consisting of Computer Engineering majors Moon Young-min and Sung Chang-wook, and Business Administration majors Kim Su-heon and Kim Yu-jin, participated under the team name ‘Value Seeker’ and won the Excellence Award alongside Yonsei University among 31 teams from 25 universities nationwide.
The students gave a presentation on the topic ‘Development and Application of an Automated REIT Valuation Model (ARVM) Using Artificial Intelligence,’ which received high praise.

This model is a system that provides valuation information of commercial real estate incorporated into REITs by utilizing a large amount of commercial real estate transaction data collected via OpenAPI and various machine learning models.
In particular, it was designed with Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to show not only price information but also which factors the machine learning model considered in deriving the price.
