Smoly "I Also Got a Hole-in-One"..."58 Captures"
This Year's The Players Championship 17th Hole Summary
It is a "hole-in-one bonanza."
This time, the protagonist is Alex Smoly (USA). On the 13th (Korean time), Smoly made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole (par 3) during the final 4th round of the PGA Tour's "fifth major," The Players Championship (total prize money $25 million) held at Sawgrass TPC (par 72, 7,256 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA. Holding a sand wedge for the 133-yard shot, the ball landed on the edge and then was sucked into the hole.

The hole-in-one on the 17th hole was the 13th in history, following Aaron Ray (England) who made one in the 3rd round the previous day. This is the first year that three hole-in-ones have occurred on the 17th hole of The Players Championship in a single year. Smoly, who made his first hole-in-one on the PGA Tour, smiled and said, "I wasn't in great condition today," adding, "I was just lucky."
On the day, Smoly lost two strokes with one hole-in-one, one birdie, three bogeys, and one double bogey. His final standing was tied for 65th place (1-over par 289). Smoly turned professional in 2019 and has yet to win a tournament. This season, he has entered the top 5 twice, finishing tied for 4th at the Houston Open and tied for 5th at the RSM Classic. His personal best is tied for 2nd at the Corales Puntacana Championship in March 2022. He is currently ranked 113th in the world and 50th in the FedEx Cup standings.
